Hello,  My name is Bianca Arroyo I grew up in Compton California I have been living there my whole life. My life wouldn't be the same if I lived anywhere else. My whole life is in Compton all of my family lives there and my childhood memories are there. I live with my mom, dad, sister, and my four dogs. Since I was just a little girl I have always been obsessed with cheese but the strange thing is that I am allergic to cheese. While in high school the only thing that mattered to me was color guard. I was in color guard from sophomore year to senior year, when I became captain my senior year I was determined to be the best that I could be I put my heart and soul in the team. Throughout high school I was a trouble maker and I did get in some deep trouble but I changed my life around once I became captain because I knew that all the girls were going to look up to me, so I changed to better myself. So once I graduated I knew that I wanted to attend Arizona State University, that has always been my dream school and as well as being a special education teacher. I knew that I had a long way to succeed my dreams but I knew I wasn't prepared so that is why instead of trying to get into Arizona State I now attend El Camino. While reading John Langan's book I learned a lot on how to prepare myself to become something better than I never knew i could be. In "Ten Skills You Really Need To Succeed In School",  I learned the importance of how to manage time and how taking notes in class is important.
While reading John Langan "Ten Skills You Really Need To Succeed In School" I learned the importance of "Managing Time". I  personally have two jobs and I am a full time student so managing time is something I need to work on. While reading I realized the most important things I need to follow which are to have a daily planner,  a "To Do" list,  keep your course outline and preparing weekly study schedules. While reading this I have went through all my class syllabus and used my El Camino planner to write down when every test is, when homework is due, and everything important that I need to know. In addition to writing everything down I have color coordinated every class and work schedule. Another, important thing I learned was to make a "To Do" list I noticed that while working and having other classes I have been slaking on completing my assignments on time so I have a "To Do" list in my room and I write down everything that I need to complete and when everything is due so I can prepare myself for what is to come. The last most important thing I learned was to prepare a weekly study schedule. I write down my full schedule since the time I wake up to the time that I work and get off so I know when I will have time to study. So now I know exactly when I have time to study before I put a work load on my back the night before it is due . After reading "Ten Skills You Really Need To Succeed In School" I have learned a lot about how to manage time being a full time student and having two jobs and still being able to manage my time wisely.

Since the beginning of the school year I have taken notes in all my classes but I never really understood the importance of taking them till I read John Langan. For instance I learned that to take good notes you must attend every class because you never know what you might miss in one day of missing class. In order to take good notes you must be able to listen to the important things your professor says. Since I started school I knew that the only way I was going to pay attention and not fall asleep in class was to sit in the front of the classroom in order to see the signal importance. Such as, I noticed while taking notes that professors tend to use hand signal or repeat themselves when it is important or might show up on a test. So once I noticed that, I learned that while taking notes if they do either that I should highlight and study that more than the other notes. Just because the other notes aren't as important I learned that you should still study every notes you take after class, you will be surprised how much you can learn just by going over your notes. After reading this book I also learned that making note cards is very important too so that is why before every quiz I make flash cards and study at least 30 minutes to an hour a day after looking at my weekly study schedule. By reading John Langans ways on how to take notes in class I believe that it will help me succeed in school in the long run to succeed my goals in life.

During the summer I experienced a magical feeling of being able to be myself and all the kindness that people give to you at EDC. This is the only place where someone can be their self, feel the love, and all the kindness we give one another as if we were one big happy loving family.

  1. I never realized that I used hand signals when I want the students to remember something important. That's a great observation, and I do repeat something when I want my students to write something down!
I also agree about color coordinating! I have different folders for my different classes, and I color coordinate things. For example, my night class is a black folder, and my morning class is a yellow folder!
